Mercado de San Miquel, Madrid is foodie heaven

The Mercado de San Miquel is a beautiful glass and iron building that houses row upon row of vendors selling everything to eat and drink. The finest fruits, vegetables, meat and fish, everthing you'd want to cook at home. Cocktails, beer and wine by the glass or bottle. And an amazing selection of tapas; olives stuffed with cheeses, sun-dried tomatoes, fish and every imaginable combination. There were so many ways they prepared bacalao, the salt cod I grew up on, that I felt giddy with choice. Cones of calamari and fried shrimp tempted with their aroma and crispy goodness. And the place was full of smiling happy people eating and drinking in the casual, elbow rubbing atmosphere. This is a not to be missed culinary experience in Madrid.
